Summary

This article demonstrates how to convert a Power Tab score to a digital audio file. (.wav) Digital audio files can be converted to mp3, or burned to a CD, making it possible to listen to a Power Tab score in an external player or system.

More Information

There is no export feature within Power Tab that will convert a score directly to a .wav file, so you'll need to use a .wav recorder. If you've got a decent sound card, it should come with a .wav recorder in its software package. If not, then you'll have to use Sound Recorder, the .wav recorder that comes pre-installed with Windows. This article details the steps required to convert a Power Tab score to a .wav file using the Windows XP Sound Recorder.

To convert a Power Tab score to a .wav file, proceed as follows:

  1. Open up Power Tab Editor and load the score you want to convert to a .wav file.
  2. Open up Sound Recorder: Click Start, point to Programs, Accessories, Entertainment, and then click Sound Recorder.
  3. Click the record button in Sound Recorder.
  4. Activate Power Tab Editor, and then click play.
  5. When the score is finished playing, re-activate Sound Recorder, and then click the stop button.
  6. On the File menu, click Save.
  7. In the File name box, type the name for the new .wav file, and then click Save.
  8. Burn the .wav to CD, or encode it to mp3 using the appropriate 3rd party software.
Note: There is a 60 second recording time limit in Sound Recorder. For a workaround, see the article entitled "How to Create WAVs Longer than 60 Seconds in the Windows XP Sound Recorder" at the following link: http://www.winxpnews.com/index.cfm?id=39
