More Information

There are two ways that you can open a Power Tab file for viewing:

  • by clicking on a Power Tab file (.ptb) from within Windows Explorer.
  • by using the file opening mechanism within the Power Tab Editor software.

In either case, you must have Power Tab Editor installed before you can view a Power Tab file. For information on how to install Power Tab Editor, see the knowledge base article Install Power Tab Editor.

Opening a Power Tab File from within Windows Explorer

To open a Power Tab file from within Windows Explorer, proceed as follows:

  1. Using Windows Explorer, browse to the folder where the Power Tab file (.ptb) you want to open is located.
  2. Double-click the file you want to open. Power Tab Editor will automatically load itself, and the file.
Note: If you have problems loading Power Tab scores via Windows Explorer, you may have a bad Windows file association. For information on how to fix a bad file association, see the knowledge base article Power Tab Files Are Being Loaded By The Wrong Program. Note that even if you can't open a file via Windows Explorer, you should always be able to open it from within the Power Tab Editor software, as outlined in the steps that appear later on this page.

Opening a Power Tab File from Within Power Tab Editor

To open a Power Tab file from within Power Tab Editor, proceed as follows:

  2. On the File menu, click Open.
  3. Using the Look in box, browse to the folder where the Power Tab file (.ptb) you want to open is located.
  4. Click the file you want to open, and then click Open.
Note: Most Web sites store Power Tab files in a compressed format (.zip) in order to save bandwidth. For information on how to uncompress (extract) the contents of a .zip file, see the knowledge base article Install Power Tab Editor. The article gives detailed steps on how to uncompress the Power Tab installation .zip file. The same process can be used to uncompress an individually zipped Power Tab file.
