Symptoms

When running Power Tab Editor using a limited user account, you recieve the following error:

Could not rename Autosave file. Autosave will be disabled.

Cause

Power Tab Editor creates a folder called AUTOSAVE inside the folder where you installed the software, and uses it to store the Autosave files that are created when the Autosave feature is enabled. When using one of the older 9x based family of Windows Oses, this does not cause a problem. On the security based NT family of Windows Oses, it may cause the problem mentioned in this article, because you may not have the appropriate file permissions needed to create a folder (or rename a file) within the installation path.

Resolution

  1. Enable the proper file permissions on the folder where you installed the program.
- or -

Disable the Autosave feature. To disable the Autosave feature, proceed as follows:

  1. On the View menu, click Options.
  2. Clear the Autosave file after "n" minutes option.
